Side Swipe

Penned against the steering wheel,
upside down, God’s will?
smelling gasoline racing toward flames,
grilled human fillet, flesh fricassee,
time wanes,
overwhelming pains indicate bone breakage,
calling Jesus name in vain,
heat intensifies,
thankful of tears expelling
wet eyes dampening engulfed clothes,
fire hose too far away,
reminiscing childhood questions of,
“can I go out to play,”
tight space, smaller
screaming, holler,
panic, delirious realized fears,
Angels whispering in ears, “let go,”
exhale, smoke filled lungs full,
jaws of life pull limp puppet from carnage,
unfortunately, alcoholic driver causing life losses
remains unscathed seated in police conclave
discussing breathalyzer results…

…alternative ending…
no more hurt,
no more discretions,
seat belts often make fine sources of protection…
